Senate:

Be at least 30 years old

USA citizen at least 9 yrs

100 total members

Approves treaties by 2/3 vote

Can appoint government officials of high status by the majority vote

Can impeach at trials

Has more power than House of Representatives

Has 6 year term

Must live in the state they represent

Is led by the Vice President (Joe Biden)

Each senator has one vote only

They refer easily challenged bills

They have few limits on debate amendments

Unless they are challenged by a unanimous vote then they have UNLIMITED time to debate

Senate is the one to pick the President pro tempore (is the 2nd highest ranking person of the United States Senate (Daniel Inouye, democratic from Hawaii from 28 June 2010 to present)

They have SOLE POWER TO TRY impeachments (like President Nixon was going to be impeached but resigned instead. President Andrew Jackson was almost impeached but the Senate was 1 vote short. President Clinton was impeached by 2/3 majority for conviction. Only 45 senators out of 100 voted guilty. They needed 67 senators. He was never removed from office.)

House of Representatives:

Be at least 25 years old

45% total members

USA citizen at least 7 years

Can impeach high governmental officials

Bill to raise revenue starts with them

2yr term limit

Must live in the state or district they represent

They are elected by the state's people

Led by the Speaker of the House

Has 435 members

The majority can elect the Speaker and the officers

Debates limited to 1 hour

Power to start a tax bill

Has SOLE power to impeach

They break ties in the Electoral College

Control the time of debates and whether or not an amendment is allowed

They are usually the first to be considered by committees

BOTH:

Must live in their state

Majority votes to do business

Are the judges of qualifications, returns of elections

Bills go through both

Members are picked by the people

Have power to do control commerce with Indian tribes, foreign nations and several states

Have the power to borrow money on credit of the USA

Can determine the Rules of Proceedings, expel a member or punish a member.
