The Canadian Gray Wolf prays on any animal species that they can kill. Contrary to popular belief that they eat fuzzy little things in the woods, they are predators, and as such they dine on whatever presents itself. In April of 2010, near the town of Dillon, Montana, two male wolves killed and/or mortally wounded 200 sheep. What sheep were left alive, had to be shot and killed by the ranch owner. Elk cow calf ratios in the Bitter Root Mountains have gone from a healthy 33 calves to 100 cows to what was an alarming 8 calves to 100 cows. Currently they are averaging just 2.5 calves to 100 cows. Moose are now nearly extinct. Deer populations occur mainly near human populations. Wolves attacked and killed 3 miniature horses in a back yard near Missoula, Montana this past summer. In October, a woman in Idaho was stalked and threatened in her driveway by two adult wolves. So, wolves do not eat fuzzy little animals in the woods where they kill them. Wolves eat whatever and wherever there is opportunity.
