There are many different species. They are herbivorous, but differnnt species have different diets. For example, some eat green leaves, shoots, etc, including the bushy tailed wood rat. The Mexican pack rat, another type of wood rat, eats seeds, acorns, fruit, and even cacti.
The Wood Rat eats the Joshua Tree. The Joshua Tree is located in the desert.
Bushy-tailed woodrats feed primarily on green vegetation, twigs, and shoots. Mexican wood rats eat seeds, fruits, acorns, and cactus. Although they are mostly herbivores sometimes they do eat insects.
yes because they eat mice , woodrats, muskrat , and voles
all snakes eat many kinds of rats, mice etc. Therefore I'm positive woodrats are on the menu. :)
Owls, hawks, snakes, bobcats, foxes, skunks and coyotes are a few.
The Spotted Owl (strix occidentalis) will eat bats, insects, squirrels, woodrats and generally animals in the tree canopy. However, at different locations he will rely on voles and rabbits, birds and rarely reptiles and amphibians. If hungry enough, a Spotted Owl will kill chickens, but this is not his preferred food. He would have to be desperate to do so.
Sometimes there are just too many animals living in an area that compete for the space, water and food that is found there. For example, in NJ, a large population of raccoons (which turned out to have a parasitic disease) threatened the last remaining population of woodrats in NJ.
The North American Badger is a fossorial carnivore. It preys predominantly on pocket gophers, ground squirrels, moles, marmots, prairie dogs, pika, woodrats, kangaroo rats, deer mice, and voles, often digging to pursue prey into their dens, and sometimes plugging tunnel entrances with objects. They also prey on ground-nesting birds such as bank swallow or sand martin and burrowing owl, lizards, amphibians, carrion, fish, skunks, insects, including bees and honeycomb and some plant foods such as maize, peas, green beans, mushrooms and other fungi, and sunflower seeds.
