∙ 13y agoI assume the "thing" is referring to a cat's dew claw, which is found on the inside of the front leg and higher up from the other toes, nearer the wrist joint (much like a human thumb). The dew claw is indeed a toe and is used for gripping while climbing or holding prey and other objects.
