Occult merely means "hidden", so anyone who studies arcane, magickal or supernatural things would be someone who "follows" the occult. Many names would apply, Witch, Wizard, Parapsychologist, Astrologist, etc. It depends on the area of study.
People involved in the occult are called 'occultists'. Sometimes they are also given titles like witch, wizard or sorcerer. The occult has a long history going back many centuries.

Horror fiction scares you... Occult fiction involves the paranormal or satanism. Horror might involve occult subjects, and Occult might scare you... so there is a lot of crossover. But that is the difference. There are Horror books that are definitely not occult and Occult books that are not horror.
