This is called a ball chain, and is also known as a bead chain. There are two types that look very similar but have different advantages:
- metal ball chain - This is made of hollow metal balls with wire links between. Each ball and link is free to rotate making the chain resistant to kinking.
- plastic bead "chain": This is made of plastic solid balls moulded at regular spacings along a length of string so is not really a chain. It is not as strong as the metal chain, but can come in a wide range of colours, and is cheaper.
