Most of the time you need to repair the permissions to get it to work.
Go to Disk Utility in the Applications/ Utility'sfolder and click on repair Disk Permissions and wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to finish then restart and see if that helps.
If not then go to Apple's support site and look for your model or OS version and you should find the discussions very helpful.
iMovie can be found in the Applications folder.
iMovie should come with your macbook. If it is not there than you can buy it from the app store.
If it's opening a previous project, just hit the red X button at the corner of the window. It will pop up the selection window for you.

The Panasonic HDC-SD60 is compatible with iMovie. If it is producing .MOD or .TOD files use the free MPEG Streamclip to convert these to another iMovie friendly format.
Double click the clip.
If it isn't on your dock, go to your finder, search imovie, drag it to your dock, and click it on your dock.
You have to have a Mac, but if you have a Macbook, it comes with it. If you don't you may or may not be able to download it. If you can, you would find it on Apple.com.

The Canon FS200 is compatible with Macs and iMovie but if the video is in the .mod format it will need to be converted. The free MPEGStreamClip (See links below) is ideal for such tasks.
