Because he's an immature jerk. He's not a bad person - tons of guys are immature jerks - but it's an affliction some boys grow out of only slowly. They aren't all like that, if it's any consolation.

I have gone through this myself. The best piece of advice I can offer is to completely and utterly surround yourself with work and friends. Don't be alone, or at least try to be around other people as much as possible. It is 10 times worse when you are at home alone. If you start to feel like you need to call your ex, call your friend instead. Tell them how you are feeling. Maybe go out and do something with them. It will take a while to heal to the point where you don't have to think about calling anymore.
