The pool is probably contamiated now, because there/is a dead carcass in it. First remove the squirrel, and dispose of it. Then you will need to cleanse the pool, a bleach solution should do the job. I would try and figure out why the squirrel fell in the pool, but whatever or you can call animal control like your supposed to Not all municipalities would send someone to remove the dead animal. After it is removed you will need to "shock" the pool with the chemicals that are ordinarily used (chlorine). The amount used depends upon the size of the pool, calling a store that handles pool chemicals or the city or county health department can obtain the information needed to solve the problem.

∙ 14y agoStep 1) Remove dead squirrel Step 2) SHOCK the heck out of the pool - I'd double whatever your normal shock volume is. Step 3) Let water circulate for 24 hours at least... It's gross, but in all honesty if your pool is properly chlorinated and maintained and the squirrel is recently deceased aside from the "eww" factor it's not really a huge problem.

I wouldn't let the kids play with it. Seriously, tho, it probably wasn't diseased; it just fell in and drowned. But even if it were sick, there aren't many, if any, diseases that can pass from squirrel to human, and the chlorine or other sanitizers in the pool will take care of any organic matter that entered the pool from the rodent.

Do you have a net on a pole to scoop out leaves? Use that to scoop out the squirrel and then put it on the ground. If you don't have a cleaning net, put something in the pool for it to get up on. Something flat, not very high above the water. DO NOT TRY TO TOUCH IT. DO NOT TRY TO GRAB OR HOLD THE SQUIRREL!
