Be taken out of the water because your wound will attract more sharks, when out of the water put a cloth or towel around the wound and be taken to the hospital by someone or else you could die of blood loss........ I think

anyway your more likely to be attacked by cows than sharks and blood loss is dependant on the wound you have received and a shark won't attack with reason such as there , hungry , feels threatened and can smell blood and if you thing that the sharks are miles away they cant smell my blood then your gonna die sharks can smell miles away from the source of the blood and can swim quite fast

If your alone dont move.If the shark is circling you then you want to swim down!If the shark follows you then try to and i mean try to Dodge its attacks.

Just keep swimming and dodging its attacks and when its the perfect time(this might sound gross)put your finger into the sharks eye and swim away and hide.

when you see a fin _____________________________________________________________________ Sharks of all species and sizes tend to like areas between sandbars and areas where there are sudden changes in depth ie. drop offs, so if you are in waters where sharks are present be vigilant in these areas. Prior to the seeing a shark divers often find that the schools of fish they were swimming alongside quickly disband and dissappear thus watching out for sudden changes in the activity of other marine life may indicate a shark is nearby. As sharks tend to feed in the surf beware of low lighting conditions as this is when sharks will hunt. Also guls and other ea birds may idicate the presence of a shark. If a flock of seaguls suddenly fly off from the water this can be an indication of a shark being nearby.

If you are in the water do not panic and get out of the water. If you are not in the water, make sure that no one else is and leave the animal alone. Next, call the authorities and report that the water is not safe.

Short of being encased in a steel cage there is no way to prevent a shark attack. However there are several things you can do to lessen the chances:

- Stay in groups or at least with your dive partner

- avoid diving in the dark or during twilight hours

- don't go in the water if you are bleeding, if you cut yourself in the water

get out

- don't wear sparkly things or highly contrasting clothing

- avoid known feeding areas

- don't pee in the water

However experience and research indicates that sharks generally don't want anything to do with humans, I've randomly encountered around 10 good sized ones and they all either swam away quickly or ignored me. For example your odds of being hurt or killed in accidents involving autos, airplanes, bathtubs, and lightning are much greater

Enjoy your experience, diving rocks

Sharks weak spot is its eye, so if you poke its eye, it will most likely leave, although shark attacks are rare.

*** *** ***

In case of an unprovoked shark attack, the chances of survival are about 74%, according to the International Shark Attack File, and the Australian Shark Attack File.

Each case is a case, but during a shark attack when Scuba diving, the gills are also a sensitive area for self defense, and much easier to reach than the eyes.

But the most important advise I can give to divers, swimmers or surfers after a shark attack, is:

DON'T PANIC !!!

TRY TO GET OUT OF THE WATER A.S.A.P., BUT TRY TO AVOID EXCESS SPLASHING WHEN SWIMMING!

KEEP YOUR MIND COOL, AND REMEMBER ALWAYS YOU HAVE A GREAT CHANCE OF SURVIVAL, EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SUFFERED A BITE FROM THE SHARK!

I know YOU CAN DO IT !

Try to keep calm, and in control of the situation.

I've been there before, and I survived from a «hit-and-run» attack from a shark, with only some scars to show to my girlfriends...

Do not go swimming in an ocean if you have an open cut or wound and if you start bleeding in the water, GET OUT ASAP! They can smell blood over a mile away.

Where is the matawan maneater?

The Matawan Maneater, was a great white shark which during the summer of 1916, attacked numerous people, killing several. The attacks occurred along the length of the New Jersey shoreline, prompting a shark hunt. The shark believed to be responsible for the attacks was caught and killed, near Matawan New Jersey where the final shark attacks took place. On autopsy, human remains were found within the shark, though none of the remains corresponded to the victims of the attacks, leading many to speculate there was more than one shark involved, though the shark attacks ceased after the one shark was caught. The short answer: Dead.

Under what conditions do shark attacks occur?

Shark attacks may occur when there's a feeding frenzy going on and a shark gets excited and ACCIDENTALLY attacks a nearby human. It can also happen when there's a surfer on a board and from under water, it looks like the surfer is a seal.... and you know, it attacks the human. Trust me.... I study this stuff in ALP.
