if it has a soft shell it needs ultra violet rays from thes the sun or uvb [ultra violet bulb] or more calcieum in its diet.
You should take it to the vet because a soft shell is a sign of shell rot and needs to be treated or the animal will die. But give the shell about a week and see if it is hard and if not then take ur turtle to the vet

It is not so much the shell that keeps a baby turtle safe. The mama turtle impacts sand tightly around the eggs which protect the eggs. The eggs themselves are soft and fragile.

What kind of turtle is it? Turtles like painted turtles and slider turtles should be fine. But turtles like musk, mud, or soft shell turtles would have trouble reaching the surface to breath. Do some research on your turtle and find out what their habitat should be. Deep or shallow.

Yes Turtles do have an exoskeleton, it is called a shell. Without the shell the turtle would just be soft and in danger. :)
