Every club is different. I would imagine most clubs would have some sort of lesson where you learn how to write some particular thing - maybe reading a bit of some classic literature and figuring out how the author did whatever it was, or maybe some handouts about how to write a certain way.
There would also probably be a period where you could critique what one person has written, or trade works and write a comment about each one.
