If you find the password (M4r13 Cur13), it will let you back up the thumb drive before the proper point in the game, and flushing the drive will give you an erroneous message "let me see if I can get more messages from C.J. in the telescope" when you haven't done that part. However, the only reason you would have to restart the island (from the little map) is if you lose the Grape in the kitchen. Even once the Thumb Drive is backed up (or flushed), you still have to get these items: - the secret note from the kitchen table - the truck controller from the top of the refrigerator - the torn diary page from the kitchen trash - the diary key from the aquarium If in doubt, see the related solution question below.
