The light comes on when the computer senses a problem. You have to check what code is stored in the computer and go from there. Some auto parts stores will check the code free for you.
timing belt replacement is recommended every 5 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. Dealers might also recommend replacing your water pump, thermostat, and tensioner. That engine has two chains. Top to Cam. Bottom to crank.. I would think both were fine. but when in Doge I would tensioner(s) given that the top chain guide was removed.. (service Bult.)
