If it's a really bad cut which won't stop bleeding you may have to see a doctor, but if it's just a regular cut it's nothing to worry about. Although tongues appear to bleed heavily when a cut has taken place, they stop bleeding very quickly too. Tongues are constantly surrounded by lots of saliva and in warm body-temperature in the mouth, so they heal VERY quickly too. The important thing to do is to drink lots of water at the start to keep flushing it clean and to prevent food from being in contact as much as possible. Avoid eating foods that are very salty, spicy, sharp etc because they can irritate the wound and even cause infection. Within 1 or 2 days the wound should have healed over.

I'm not a doctor, but common sense tells me that if the bleeding doesn't stop within a few minutes or if the cut is pretty deep, I would visit the emergency room. Otherwise, I'd just leave it alone and it should heal itself.

If its only a little tinsy weeny cut, then wash the blood away with clean water and it'll heal(DISINFECT THE CUT), BUT it you cut off your whole tongue... then you need to get to the nearest hospital(MEDICAL EMERGENCY)
