The automatic Toyota may be stuck in park because of transmission problems. The transmission may be jammed or stuck in that gear.

What causes a 2001 Toyota Camry to get stuck in park?

Check to see if the stop lights are working- shift interlock and stop lights are on the same circuit. Could be a blown fuse or bad stoplight switch Most 2001 Toyota Camrys get stuck in park (part of their ignition lock stuff). When you park your car, have the tires pointed stright ahead - not turned to the left or right. If it is stuck, just rock the wheel to the left and right back and forth (not hard) and it should unlock. Your Toyota Dealer will tell you the same thing.
