No they're two different gangs that are controlled by the Mexican Mafia. Surenos are a mostly Mexican gang whereas Ms-13 are a mostly Salvadoran, Honduran & Guatemalan gang. They both rep the number 13 cause the letter M is the 13th letter of the alphabet & the M represents the Mexican Mafia. Another gang that is under Mexican Mafias control is the Eighteen St. Gang. Most Hispanic gangs in Southern Cali are either controlled by or pay a drug tax to the Mexican Mafia. The only Hispanic gang in Southern Cali that isn't under Mexican Mafias control is a gang called Maravillas(not to be confused with Mara Salvatrucha aka Ms-13). *Gangs that are under Mexican Mafias control wear the colors:brown & white *Gangs under Mexican Mafia war with gangs under the Blood Alliance which are gangs such as:Bloods, Pirus & Nortenos to name a few(they wear the color red).

Well because of the fact that gangs have gotten so huge, and that they can use any weapon, legal or not, I believe that the gang members would win hands down.
Can the maravilla gang take on the surenos on the streets?
(Deleted expletives) As a whole, no. The Maravilla family of gangs cannot take on the Surenyos family of gangs, and win. Per say, the Surenyos are not an actual street gang. They are an enforcement arm of the prison gang, La Eme (the Mexican Mafia). As a group, they rival all other street gangs in the US, as they are a coalition of Latino gangs from Southern California, Arizona, Texas, smaller gangs in the northwest and Midwest. They are mostly Mexican American (chicano) members with the occasional illegal immigrant allowed. In Los Angeles, SFV, OC, and San Diego alone they claim 30K to 40K members. Any gang that claims 13 after their barrio, or hood is considered a "Surenyo" gang and under EME control. Nevertheless, that control on the streets is always challenged by rivalries amongst other Surenyo gangs - hence, territorial disputes are still very much alive, and so are the deaths at hands of fellow Surenyo gangs. The Maravilla gangs are hold outs from this coalition of "southsiders" that pledge allegiance to the EME. As so, they have been "greenlighted" for many years. As so, a hatred of sorts has fomented among Surenyo gangs, viewing the Maravillas as traitors, or "levas". However, the Maravillas have a firm hold on their territories, and their roots in East L.A. go back generations. As so, they have the "street's" loyalty in the neighborhoods they patrol. Because of this, the Surenyos have never gone after, in an active campaign, to eliminate the Maravillas. That would be a very bloody war on both sides. The Maravillas consider themselves just as ruthless as the EME, and will not back down from a war. Unlike the Surenyo gangs, the Maravilla group of gangs do not bicker with each other over territory, or power which keeps them strong. For any gang to try and eliminate the Maravillas, they would soon find out that it they would be hard pressed for a quick solution. So, the answer to your question, Yes they can, but No they cannot win.
