Take the patch off.
If you are using an AED that means their heart has stopped (or you suspect it has) and whatever that patch is, is not going to save them.

Ahh, somebody is taking their CPR certification. You need to remove the medication pad if the AED pads will overlap. With a gloved hand, remove the patch from the person's chest.
You generally do not remove patches before applying the AED pads.
You clear the victim when using the AED; clear before the AED analyzes and before shocking.

Any adult AED pad, as long as it is compatible with the AED, will be OK.
If you touch the victim while an AED is delivering a shock, you too will receive a shock.

So the electric currents from the AED do not transfer from the victim to yourself, thus, you yourself becoming a victim of shock if exposed to the currents.
Insure there is no pulse before you attach the pads to the victim.
Leave the AED attached and place the victim in the recovery position by rolling them onto their (preferebly left) side.
Use the AED when the pulse is confirmed absent.
