What do you get to do in Sims 3?

It depends on which game console you are getting it for. Mine is for the playstation 3. Even if you aren't going to get it for the ps3 read this anyway because most of it is the same.

You can make sims and give them brand new clothes never seen before on sims with new hairstyles new makeup and you can give them 1 trait when they are a toddler, 2 when they are a child, 4 at teen and 5 at adult. When your sim dies it might live on in a ghost life. You can cheat by bringing spoot the magic llama. If you push start then push r1,r2,l1,1l at the same time you can buy him from the miscellanous decor catergory. There is a new feature called Karma and you can use it to do various different things like satisfy all your needs or you can haunt your house or become lucky or make someone an epic fail. You can go swimming and rent places for parties. You get a cell phone which you carry everywhere and you can use it to hire services and call sims. You can hire babysitters, maids, repairmen, and order Pizza and adopt kids. You can make ponds or have pools in your backgarden. You can even make a personal park for kids. There is WAY more than just this but if I told anything else EA probably sue me for giving out details on their games.
