If you were born in Australia you have it automatically.

If you aren't already a citizen, to put it simply there are 4 steps.

• Determine that you are eligible
• Gather your original documents
• Copy and certify your documents
• Complete and lodge your application.

Then a decision will be made about your application. At a point along the way there is also a citizenship test, which is a 20 question test that you must get 15 questions right before you can become a citizen.

If your application is approved, you must swear an oath or affirmation at which point you will be given your citizenship certificate.
