∙ 12y agoThis is very basic, it means that if a lawyer takes your case and does not win they will not charge you a fee. However if you win, they will generally charge a considerable amount, either as billed hours or more usually a percentage.
The lawyer simply does not get paid unless he wins the case for you. Otherwise you will not be liable to pay any legal fees.

To pick a "good" lawyer, you must find one that is willing to take your case. A "no win no fee" lawyer probably will not take your case unless they are confident they can win the case (and benefit financially). As with any lawyer, you should research the lawyer and the firm to make sure they are reputable and the kind of lawyer you would want to represent you.
