The weight of the oil when it is cold. The 15w is a thicker oil than the 10w when it is cold.
Prescribed in the owners' manual is SAE 20W-50. The nearest best grade to use is SAE 15W-40.
Depends on the engine... For our Series 60s we use SAE 15w-40 and for our 2 strokes we use SAE 30.

15w 40 engine oil can be used for all temperatures down to -15 deg centergrade !
