It's another way for the government to get their hands on your money. If your were out fishing on your boat, would you want a police boat slaming up on the sides of your boat doing damage, having police comming on board demanding to see your fishing license. If really takes the fun out of the trip. Then the Coast Guard could do the same thing demanding to see your lifejackets. What if it is rough? All of this can be dangerous. the police will kill you

∙ 12y agoGenerally speaking yes you do. Each state has laws regarding the taking of fish and wildlife (this includes catch and release). Some exceptions to this are; children below a certain age do not require a fishing license in many states, private bodies of water are also usually exempt as long as you have the landowners permission, many fishing piers have a general license which covers anyone who pays admission.
To avoid fines and the illegal taking of fish or wildlife, it is always best to assume that you need a license and permit. Contact the local fish and wildlife department and they will answer any questions.
