With 20yrs experience as a retail jeweller these are some points I look for in a wholesaler: 1. A good product. It sounds obvious but it's a competitive market and your product needs something different from the rest. 2. Well designed packaging and, ideally, some point of sale material. If you're a designer some cards that we can hand out with your short bio, where you trained, prizes and awards won, where you get your inspiration 3. Realistic delivery times - don't promise what you can't deliver. 4. If you employ a sales team, ensure they have sufficient knowledge of the product 5. Don't compete with the retailer. Decide what you want to be: a retailer or a wholesaler. Wholesalers who also want to retail are not popular in my view. 6. Give good retailer support for their website sales, eg. supply high quality images for website use. 7. And last, but certainly not least, offer discounts for prompt payment, think about extra deals or discounts for larger orders.

Step 1 The first step is to make a sketch of the jewelry design and gather all the required tools like a hydraulic press, silhouette die rubber and other jewelry making tools. A good design is very important and a sketch will help in bringing out the exact result. Step 2 The next step is to choose a silhouette die that will be used with the hydraulic press. You can either make or buy silhouette dies. In case the die’s form is not proportioned, if you turn the die around you will have a mirror image that can be used as a die form. Step 3 You will need a metal sheet that has one to two inches of edges longer than the cut out die. Step 4 Now place the copper metal sheet above the planned cut-out die form. The gauge can be made of silver, copper, brass or even gold. Step 5 The next step is to insert the rubber sheet on top of the copper metal sheet on the die form. Step 6 The next step is to place the copper sheet along with the rubber sheet and feed it to the press. The hydraulic press has to be gently pumped up to the point where the pressure reaches fifty pounds. Step 7 Now it’s time to check the output. Extract the die out after releasing the hydraulic press, then take out the rubber sheet and examine the copper metal sheet. You will know that are done with the job if you find the output to be satisfactory. For a deeper form harden the metal and continue to repeat till the desired resultant output is achieved. Step 8 The final step would be to cut off the excess metal sheet. For this operation it is advisable to use a jeweler’s saw. You can form many more die forms, and this is limited only by your imagination and creativity in creating your own jewelry design that is handmade using hydraulic presses.
