In my opinion, computers will be everywhere in the next 20 years. I know they are taking everything over already, but it's going to be more even dramatic. Everything will be based upon computers--we won't have snail mail or anything like that. Everyone will communicate by computer--perhaps the telephone will even be out of fashion! But that's just my personal opinion.

How were computers 50 years ago to what they are now?

Computers 50 years ago weren't really "computers" as we know them. Mostly anything that used a CPU appeared more mechanical/electrical than a stand alone desktop or personal computer. (Things that used a CPU were machines that didn't look anything like computers) Now just look at your smart phone, or go check out the ipad (apple.com) Computers now give us a better picture of what is, what should have been and what will be.

How has predicting earthquakes change overtime?

Now, scientists can only predict the location and what it could do. They can't predict exactly when, example would be, they only know an earthquake will hit Japan between now and 10 years. They also can't predict how big/destructive it will be. (Not very helpful, predicting earthquakes...)

No, on their own computers can not solve the problems of humanity, only humans can do that. However, computers are powerful tools that can be used to model various aspect of the real world. If human have managed to to get these model correct then computers are now fast enough to calculate what these models will predict in the future. Armed with these predictions humans may be capable of making choices that help to solve human problems.

Who knows what will happen in the next 20 years next 100 years and next 1000 years?

Nobody does ! There is far too much happening in the world right now - to predict what's going to happen in the future. We can 'guess' things like - how technology might change, or whether there will be another world war... but even simple things like that - are really outside our control !
