A proper aquarium is the only place that it is fair to keep fish in. Plastic fish tanks are not very expensive, you could use one of those if you only have one or a few small fish. Try to get the biggest one that is possible for you. Make sure you use proper water treatment to remove the chlorine from water before you add the fish (you can get this from a pet shop). This is only very basic information. The best thing to do would be to buy a book on keeping goldfish so you know what to do. It will give you more information on setting things up and also on maintaining the aquarium. Keeping fish is more work than most people realize. If you do not have the time/money to give the fish a proper home yourself very soon you should find somebody else who can, perhaps a friend with an aquarium.
