Looking towards the rear window, it is the RIGHT front cylinder. (passenger side, front cylinder, USA)
When looking in the engine from the front of the vehicle, cylinder 1 is the right rear cylinder.

In both the SOHC and the DOHC engines, the #2 cylinder is the 2nd from the right side of the engine as you see it looking into the engine compartment from the front of the vehicle.
On an inline 4 cylinder, #1 is the cylinder closest to the belts.
standing in front of your car and looking at the motor no. 1 is the left back cylinder

Number one is if you are looking at the engine in front of the truck it will be the right front cyl
Cylinder 1 is the first/front cylinder on the right side of the engine looking from the front of the car. That bank is 1-3-5-7 and the left bank is 2-4-6-8.
The firing order is 1-4-3-2. From looking at the motor, cylinder 1 is right rear, cylinder 2 is right front, cylinder 3 is left rear, and cylinder 4 is left front.
