Look out for this kind of question. It can be really helpful in that it's a chance to sell yourself. Alternatively if handled badly it could sink you!
The answer you give need to be based on the job for which you are being interviewed. If for instance it's a graduate programme employers will want to see some ambition. What employers won't want to hear is that you see yourself working somewhere else in 5 years time.
So the safest answer structure needs to be along the lines
- I am hoping that in 5 years I can progress in the company
- Based on the training and development I can get
- Plus my performance
- Can't name a particular role but certainly promoted to the next level by then

∙ 11y agoThis is a standard question for an interviewer. They are looking to see elements of enthusiasm, of looking forward, a positive outlook and to see if you are ambitious to develop, possibly in their organisation. An example may be that you start sweeping the floors of a store but you want to see yourself running a department within 5 years. Be realistic at all time. Stating you want to be running a multi million - multi national in five years and you are looking at starting your first job can put an employer off. NEVER say that you see yourself in another company as this will be seen as lacking in loyalty
