In the early stages of an infection, most of the increase in WBCs is attributable to the increase in neutrophils. As the infection continues, lymphocytes increase. Worm infections can trigger an increase in eosinophils, whereas allergic conditions, such as hay fever, trigger an increase in basophils.

Lupus does not cause infection, but it makes one more susceptible to infection and makes fighting infection more difficult, especially if one is taking immunosuppressive medication. As for the ache, I would look for other potential causes. Just because a person has lupus, does not mean that all maladies can be attributed to the disease.

What happens to cause death in an infected person?

Eventually, your body can't take it anymore and it shuts down. Your organs stop functioning and you die. Well that does make sense, but it depends on what kind of infection it is. Like if its an infection in your blood you will most likely die within hours unless the person seeks medical help. If it's an infection of a lung or skin infection, you can either try to treat it or remove whatever's infected.

How an HIV infected person may not develop aids until years later?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes a person to develop AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). AIDS is a diagnosis, not a disease. HIV uses a part of the body (CD4 cells) that fight disease to replicate. Over the course of infection, HIV causes the body's number of disease fighting cells to drop. After the number reaches a clinical set point, or the patient develops an infection indicative of a severely weakened immune system, their medical provider will give them an AIDS diagnosis.
