The main concern of a livestock raiser is the relative price of feed to what (s)he gets for the animal when sold. This determines the profitability.

In some climates, e.g. South West England, grass grows nearly all the year, and cows and sheep can graze with little need for bought in food. As a result, as feed prices increase, more livestock is likely to be raised in such places rather than in harsher continental climates.
