The robot Sprocket is your companion and is required for completion of the quest. To get Sprocket, you will need Sully's Key (lets you use the Steam Generator on Sully's door).
To Get Sprocket
Go to the Living Quarters left of Sully's, and jump on the balance bar to lower it. Climb to the Living Quarters door and jump on top of the Robot Crab. You will get the Crab and Sully's Key. At the door, set the Steam Generator for minus 5 (-5) and open the door. Sprocket is to the right and can be reactivated by ringing the bell on the counter, then clicking him when he wakes up.
