Magna Carta from England in 1225 A.D.

Another document, much earlier by all accounts, and one which the New Testament quotes Jesus Christ attributing to Moses, that is, the Book of Deuteronomy, then would predate the Magna Carta by over 2,000 years. A section in chapter 17 regards the principles governing kings including a requirement that the king must obey the law, and so in that way, he is not to view himself as above his neighbors, nor of course above the law.
