Spiders are first egg and then tiny little spiders that grow for a while, molt, and become slightly larger and more fully developed little spiders. After a number of molts they become fully mature and can reproduce themselves. However, they are always spiders (or at least spiderlings) once they have hatched.

How did the crab spider get its name?

Over 700 different kinds of spiders live in Florida. The scientific name for spiders is "Arachnid" (uh-rack-nid). That name comes from an old Greek story. In this story, a girl named Arachne (uh-rak-nee) loved to weave. Her weaving was so beautiful and perfect that the goddess Athena got jealous. To punish Arachne, the goddess turned her into a spider. But Arachne still loved to weave, even though she was a spider.

Caite an example from arachne's web that supports this statement Arachne held herself equal to the gods?

Arachne didn't hold herself equal to the gods. Her web showed the wrongdoings of the gods like Zeus being unfaithful to his wife Hera with Europa, Danae, and Leda. It was so flawless and the subject was so wrong that Athena got mad and made her feel guilty. Arachne felt so guilty that she committed suicide. Athena felt bad and made her into a spider. Hope that helps :) ~K

Do you think Athena was right in punishing Arachne why / why not. short answer for class 8?

No, Athena abused her power as a god and proved Arachne's point that gods are immoral, unjust, and abusive over their power. Athena accepted Arachne's offer to see who's the best weaver. Arachne won fair and square however, Athena did not like that and cursed Arachne out of spite.

Why is arachne famous?

Because nobody can weave just like her.
