The main goal of Buddhism is to have total control over desire and emotional attachment. The belief is that desire and attachment always eventually leads to pain and suffering. So, the offer of Buddhism is to eliminate pain and suffering by suppressing desire and emotional attachments.

The end goal for Buddhists is to become one with the ultimate reality, and therefore completely rid yourself of the fleshly inclinations, physical needs, and the cycle of death/rebirth. They believe the physical world is comparable to an illusion that they try to see through.
