C is convertible. i is Fuel Injection. (yeah, they pretty much all have an 'i' these days - this letter is a carryover from way, way back in the time of carburetors, and I think they still use it just 'cause it sounds cool - it is slowly being phased out on new models, but the 3-series still seems to use it)

Um, no. "C" stands for Coupé, as opposed to the sedan.

"i" does stand for injected, as in Fuel Injected.

You will find the 323Ci in both fixed roof and convertable trim.

Also, last time I checked (4 days ago) BMW's model lines had plenty of "i" models; 740i, 740iL, 330Xi; it's their naming convention and their customers understand/expect it.
