The Epistle to the Colossians was not really written by Paul, nor to the Colossians. It is believed to have been written in Paul's name some time in the 70s of the first century. Verse 4:17 passes on a greeting from 'Paul' to Archippus, who has been ordained a minister in the church. Archippus need not have been a real person, because it was a common ploy to add personal details to make a letter seem genuine. However, in this case we know from Philemon 1:2 that Archippus was a Christian known to Paul.

This contrasts with the letters to the Corinthians, which really were written by Paul. He did not write to the leaders of the church in Corinth, because at that early stage there were no leaders such as deacons or pastors. There was a group of individuals, each of whom had a gift of the Spirit. But Paul was writing in the fifties or earlier, whereas Colossians was written in the seventies, and the author simply assumed that in Paul's time there was already a church hierarchy in place.

What does proverbs chapter 1 verse 17 mean?

In order to understand proverbs chapter 1 verse 17 you need to read a couple versus before it and a couple after it. The passage is warning us not to get mixed up with people are purposely hurting others. Verse 17 in the message bible says "No one robs a bank with everyone looking". Verse 19 says "When you grab all you can get, that's what happens: the more you get, the less you are."
