There is no real way to tell, as we cannot talk to God face to face. Some people believe that God has already prepared a destined route for each person, and therefore he doesn't expect anything of you. Others believe that God wishes that you make wise decisions and support the Catholic religion.
He wants you to be faithful, worship Him as the One True God, go to mass, participate in mass, receive communion, read The Bible and hopefully answer your vocation to become a priest, nun, sister, brother, monk, missionary, or just to spread His Word. In exchange, he will protect us, love us, forgive us, give us grace, let us into Heaven, and he even sent Jesus Christ, His only Son.
Answer:
God has always commanded His people to "OBEY HIS VOICE."
Enoch obeyed God's voice, or they couldn't have been in agreement with each other:
"...Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah..." (Gen.5:22).
"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3)
Noah obeyed God's voice and built the ark.
God's covenant with Abraham and his descendants began with Abraham's obedience to God's voice:
"...I... will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because that Abraham OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept My charge, My Commandments, My statutes, and My laws..." (Gen.26:4-5).
Later on, God reestablished contact with Abraham's children following 400 years of slavery... and demanded their father's obedience to His voice from them as the conditions for reinstituting Abraham's interrupted covenant:
"...Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain... Thus shalt thou say to the House of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagle's wings, and brought you unto Myself. Now therefore, IF YE WILL OBEY MY VOICE indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people... and ye shall be unto Me a Kingdom of priests, and an Holy Nation..." (Ex.19:3-6).
Jeremiah reminded the Jews of the covenant conditions just before they went into Babylonian captivity:
"...I spake not to your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: but this thing commanded I them, saying, OBEY MY VOICE, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU..." (Jer.7:22-23).
Finally, in these last days... Jesus Christ, the Creator God of the Old Testament, came to earth to reveal the "spiritual" aspect of the Ten Commandments. He brought to light the REASON why He has always demanded the keeping of the Commandments - because they are God's perfect laws of love - Love for God with all our heart; and Love for one another as we love ourselves.
"As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you: continue ye in My love. IF YE KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, YE SHALL ABIDE IN MY LOVE; even as I have kept My Father's Commandments, and abide in His love. These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. THIS IS MY COMMANDMENT, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as I have loved you... Ye are My friends, IF YE DO WHATSOEVER I COMMAND YOU..." (John 15:9-14).
Just like any human father demands the obedience of his children, that things might go well with them... so, our Creator demands no less from His children.
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: FEAR GOD, and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: for THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN. For God shall bring every work into Judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil." (Eccle.12:13-14)

People choose to believe in God because people want to have somebody to back them up always no matter what happens. They choose to believe in god because they want to be excepted and god will never unexcept them. People also believe in god because they want to know how everything was made (the universe etc.) in a logical explination.
A government of the people by the people for the people.
God wanted the people of Jericho killed, because they did not obey him.
because they want what other people want.
People go to Temple Because it is holy. People want to achieve God by visiting & worshiping God.
He was nice!
God does not punish people who don't believe in him. People, while they are on the earth, have the choice to learn about God and follow him. If they decide that they don't want to, then that is their decision. Eventually, these people go to hell because they basically say "I don't want to be around God" and they get what they ask for. If you do make the choice to follow God, then you will basically say "I do want to be around God" and you will go to heaven.
People practice their beliefs because they have faith in their God. They want to show their loyalty to their God and that is why people practice their beliefs.
People go to Temple Because it is holy. People want to achieve God by visiting & worshiping God.
