Jesus meant exactly what He said. The impossibility of a camel going through the eye of a needle was a shocking image that clearly illustrated a rich man's impossible plight to replace his all-consuming love and trust in his possessions, overcome his carnal nature and replace it with a love and trust of equal power in God. (even if he wanted to, as did the young man who walked away in sorrow)
It even shocked His disciples: "...they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?" (Matt.19:25)
And that was exactly the point Jesus was making: "...With men THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE; but with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE." (verse 26)
It was a straight forward illustration of carnal minded man's struggle against spiritual Truths that diametrically oppose our selfish nature.
Only by the power of God may the flesh (the material world) be overcome by the Spirit.
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
The world seems impossible to overcome at times. That's why we need to know our limitations... and to hand it all over to the One who has overcome it for us. The impossible is possible with God... if we love and trust Him.
