13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:4 - Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? [NKJV] Jesus is teaching against hypocrisy; judging others by a stricter standard than you hold yourself to. Jesus uses the humorous image of a person trying to get a speck out of someone else's eye (correct a fault in them) while they have a "plank" (think 2 by 4) in their own eye...in other words, they have far worse faults of their own that need to be corrected.
This highlights the role of prayer and asking God for what we need. It does not mean he will give us every little thing we ask for, just as a loving parent does not give a child everything he wants. Verse 9 adds further explanation and context.

In the book of Matthew chapter 9 verse 12 you can read "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick." This is also recorded in Mark chapter 2 verse 17 and also in Luke chapter 5 verse 31. In the book of Colossians chapter 4 verse 14 you can read of Luke being the beloved physician. With these passages you can see that the authority is given to see a doctor when physicaly sick. Now through the care of the doctor he or she may prescribe or give you some type of medication for your treatment. In the book of Proverbs chapter 31 and verse 6 you can read "Give strong drink to him that is perishing." In this verse we can see that the drink is used as a medication. In old times pills were not used as they are today.
