Your vehicle has two O2 sensors, one up front, and one in the rear. Typically, this means that your car is running rich(not burning all of the fuel. I would first check for any codes(can be done at any auto parts store, Checker, Pep Boys, AutoZone...) then I would replace the front sensor. This is an easy fix!
The bank 2, Oxygen sensor 2, on a 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is in the exhaust in the undercarriage.

You'll need to take the harmonic balancer off and remove the timing cover to see it. Often you need to remove the timing belt to get it out.
