Despite begging the ghost to say this isn't so the ghost rebukes him saying, better he die and decrease the surplus population. Following this Bob offers a toast to the founder of the feast, Mr Scrooge, the family are appealed especially Mrs Cratchit who is sure he'll have as wonderful time. Bob asks for pleasantness as its Christmas Day. The family drink Scrooges health. This episode shows Scrooge the families dislike of him,the loyalty of Bob but also some of the meaning of Christmas

In act 2, Scrooge observes Bob Cratchit's family having a cheerful Christmas dinner despite their financial struggles. They express gratitude for what they have and share love and warmth with each other. Scrooge is moved by their joy and closeness.

∙ 6y agoAs this is a scripted question then its assumed that this is the first time Scrooge actually meets the Cratchit family with The Ghost of Christmas Present. Scrooge is surprised by how poor they family are, he is humbled by the way Bobs toasts his health but is concerned to hear that Tiny Tim will not see another Christmas if "these scenes remain unchanged"
