∙ 11y agoSocial Security isi paid in by a percentage on the working days of a persons life. Then at age 62 (maybe age moved up recently) you receive that money back in monthly payments since you can no longer work. You don't pay taxes on that money and after age 75 don't have to file taxes if you make within a certain amount with your social security and other income. Many of us depend on our social security for income if we have become unable to work. Also, if your wife or husband made more than you do, you may take theirs instead of your own SS. This is a wonderful program and needs to kept going.
