While both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atom bombs produced explosions via atomic fission, they were designed to do it differently. The first bomb dropped was "Little Boy", which was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. This bomb derived its explosive power from the nuclear fission of 235U (uranium 235). The design used chemical explosives to shoot one piece of 235U into another cylinder shaped target piece to create a super-critical mass, initiating a nuclear chain reaction.
The second bomb, "Fat Man" was dropped on Nagasaki August 9, 1945. Instead of using the gun method to force pieces of uranium together, Fat Man used a shell of explosives around a spherical plutonium core to compress it to super-critical mass and initiate the chain reaction. The plutonium was produced in special reactors where purified uranium, consisting mostly of 238U was bombarded with radiation to convert the 238U to 239Pu (Plutonium-239).
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan
Atom bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan during WWII.
Two: One on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki.
Nuclear bombs made from Plutonium and Uranium.
Two atomic bombs was drop on Japan at the end of the second World War. The first on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki
hiroshima They dropped bombs on several places. A lot of island in the pacific ocean, japans mainland, (atom bombs were dropped at Nagasaki and Hiroshima), Germany
Plutonium-239 for Nagasaki's Fat Man Uranium-235 for Hiroshima's Little Boyhydrogen
1. D-Day 2. Atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
These bombs were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan and not in China.
America dropped the first atom bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan, causing havoc in both cities. Even today, children borne in these cities, have radiation effect and paralytic structure in their bodies.
The Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by atom bombs at the end of WW2
"Little Boy", a code name for the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, was detonated on the morning of August 6th, 1945. The second bomb, codenamed "Fat Man", was detonated in the city of Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945, three days later.
