A 1988 Chevy truck is unlikely to be found at a normal car showroom. It is possible that someone might be able to find one at their local Chevy truck showroom but it is more likely it can be bought online through somewhere like Craigslist.

no I wouldnt go with just no.. in the glove box there is a list of part with number and letter series. you would have to call like a dealer or somebody qualified to tell you what part goes with your vin number. my 98 chevy takes a GU6 any truck that has that part number I can change with my truck.. you just have to match what part with what you have.
Hear is an easy way to find out what your truck has in it FOR SURE. Wright the VIN # down and call a Chevy parts dealer and tell them that you have the VIN# and would like to know what the gear ratio is in your truck.
