My 4mo old heeler shy's away and won't come when called this developed over the last couple of weeks he hasn't been scolded or treated harshly in any way any suggestions as to help him get over this?

Heelers are very dominant and will try to "assert" their authority, sometime it is subtle like not listening. I did a lot of research because the Heelers are dominant to figure out the best way to discipline them. Here is what I found out: 1) We have to use their emotions against them AKA do not give them attention when they do something bad. We correct the action and put them in the dog run. They hate being confined and not having attention. 2) These dogs are trained to be kicked by cattle, so spanking them on their little butts does not work at all. 3) If all else fail act like the momma dog does: When they don't listen (in your case come to you when you call) roll the dog on their back and hold them down until they submit. You will know they submit because their body relaxes and the dog will look you in the eye. Once they submit let them sit up. Immediately, repeat the command to come to you. If the dog does not listen then roll them back over, make them submit and then let them up - repeat the command. When they do what you ask make sure you praise them and keep working with them. Positive praise and attention from their humans works wonders. Heelers are extremely intelligent, but if you are not consistent they will take advantage of it. This method does not hurt the dog at all and reinforces that you are in charge. The funny thing is when I roll over my Cyka, the little turd is so stubborn she will not look at me right away, but just like a child look everywhere else until she gives up. Once she submits she is allowed up, but we have had to have a contest of wills at least twice in the last year. Just as a child as long as you're consistent the dogs will be well behaved. http://dogobedienceadvice.com/australian-cattle-dog-training.php http://www.gotpetsonline.com/queensland-heeler/dog-heeler-queensland/queensland-heeler-rescue.html

What does the Queensland coat of arms look like?

Queensland's Coat of Arms has a shield with a bull's head, a merino ram, a pile of quartz and a gold pyramid with a spade and pick. These images symbolise the pastoral, mining and agricultural industries. The shield is supported by a red deer (an introduced species) and the brolga (Queensland's official state bird). The Queensland State badge sits at the top surrounded by two sugar cane stems. Sugar cane is a significant industry along Queensland's coast. The motto is "Audax et Fidelis", which means "Bold, Aye, and Faithful Too".

Where do blue heelers get their name?

Blue heelers are short, silver colored dogs from Australia. The word "blue" comes from their coloring, which tends to be a silverish that can look blue in some lights. The term "heeler" is referring to a class of herding dog breeds that are short, like the blue heeler. Heelers usually herd cattle, and they do so by nipping at the cow's heels. They re bred to be short so that when the cow kicks at them, the cow's feet will fly over the dog's head.

What type of dog is in the movie The Bodyguard?

Well, if you are talking about the markings over the eyes, and around the mouth, It's called an E-Mask. There are many breeds that can, such as The Following...Mutts, Rottweilers, Huskies can,Australian Cattle Dog(Blue Heeler,Queensland Heeler,Red Heeler, or Hall's Heeler) Australian Shepherd, Malamutes, Dingos, And there are also many more. I am creating a dog breed that can also have an E-Mask. In Time It wil be recignized as the Husker. Siberian Husky,X with a herding dog breed I don't want anyone to steel my creation. They can look like Rottweilers, Or an Australian Shepherd with pointed ears. I am deciding to make this a breed after I have owned one. They are Very fast, I measured his (the dog/Husker) at almost 50 mph (43mph)!!!!!!! They are tall and slender wich halps explain why they are so fast. I live on a ffarm and they have great herding instincts! My neighbor didn't like it when I came over with hime, becaus he would try tto herd the cattle. The man ended up ending my Sparky's (dog name) life before his time is done. They are very hard workers.

How do you tell if a blue heeler is full blooded at 7 months?

If the dog comes from registered (AKC) parents, the pup will have papers that come with it. If there are no papers, then look up the breed on the AKC web site. You can read the description of the breed, and then look at your dog, how well does it match? If there are just a few faults, like height or weight that's off a little, chances are you have a pure breed. If there is a lot off, like colors that are not allowed, weird ears, of different kind of coat, chances are you have a mix.

What is the difference between a blue heeler and red heeler?

Australian Cattle Dogs and Blue Heelers are the same thing. 'Australian Cattle Dog' is it's official name, but we (In Australia) often call them blue or red heelers for the colour of their coat and their ability to 'heel' cattle. There are however 2 breeds of Bluey (we shorten everything in Aus, it's got a nickname for the nickname). One is the Australian Cattle Dog and the other is the Australian Stumpy-Tailed Cattle Dog. They look pretty much the same, except for the obvious; one has a short tail.
