It will be eight sided, thus the name hexagon barrel.
I need to clean the barrel, not like a model 12.
There are many determining factors to consider when assigning a value to a rifle of this age and high collector desirability.I would like to start with the fact that you have a Winchester model 1876 second model, lever action rifle that was made in the year 1881.This is determined by your serial number provided. What I do not know by your question is what barrel length you have?Does it have a .22 inch round barrel(Carbine model 1876.)or do you have a different barrel length,26inch,or 28inch barrel in either round or octagon configuration? This will affect the value of your Winchester.I will also need to know the amount of overall finish remaining on your Winchester model 1876?This greatly affects the value of your rifle/carbine.I would also need to know if our rifle has any special order features that were available during this time span, such as a half magazine, checkered forearm and stock, color cased hardened frame, and either round, octagon,or half round and half octagon barrel. If you are willing to provide this info you can post it to my message page here or post it at Wikianswers.com as you have already done.
that will depend on when your rifle was made(need serial number) and the condition of the rifle, amount of blueing finish left on the wood, overall condition of the rifle? Also any custom features,Like is it a takedown model, octagon barrel etc.
What model Winchester is it? Sounds like it's a lever gun, 1892? 1894? rifle? carbine? Can't answer your question wihtout the info.
The collector value of your 1899 vintage Model 1892 can only be assessed by a visual inspection & evaluation. Old Winchesters are very much like old classic automobiles... the graded condition and factory originality are the key factors in determining what they are truly worth.

Can you post a photo someplace? I've never heard of a Winchester model that didn't have the Winchester name, the chambering and the model number stamped on it, even the lowest end guns that didn't get serial numbers still had markings. I seriously doubt it's a Winchester.

The barrel is actually octagon (8-sided) versus hexagon (6-sided).
Sounds like a Winchester model 1873 .38 cal....email me pics and i can tell you more....martinphoto1@verizon.net Regards, Marty
A Winchester model 100 in 100% shape is worth about $550.00 and in 60% shape about 230.00 you do the math for in between. A Winchester model 100 in the carbine is worth much more. $725.00 in 100% shape and 250.00 at 60% shape. Don't be fooled, some people cut the barrel off from a rifle the same size of a carbine and crown the end of the barrel and call it a carbine. A true carbine has a barrel band and no checkering on the stock. Hope this is useful. If you happen to find a model 100 in he 284 caliber consider yourself lucky they are like dinosaur bones. What is a Winchester model 67-22 short - long - long rifle worth?
That all depends on the rifle,or carbine itself. The rifle could be had with a octagon barrel, different barrel length,s.It could also be had with a shotgun style butt stock, half magazine, checkered wood, special order wood, cresent style steel butt plate etc.A saddle ring carbine will have a ring on the left side of the receiver,a shorter 20in barrel, and any special order features that were listed above.
