Think of a circuit as a type of circle around an airfield made by an airplane. The circle is shaped more like a race track. A simple circuit may consists of an aircraft starting on the runway, taking off flying on the runway heading briefly while climbing, making a procedure turn to the left or right 180 degrees, leveling off flying downwind in the opposite direction of the take off, passing the airport abeam while in flight, making another procedure turn (left or right, same as the first turn) 180 degrees to complete the track back to the runway for landing.
That's a pretty crude but simple example of what a circuit of the airfield might consist of.
