with the advent of obd-2 it became possible to test each vehicle everytime that it was driven. the obd-2 drive cycle is similar to the federal test procedure. both are designed to test the system under a part of normal vehicle operation. it takes 12 to 15 min to complete the entire drive cycle a typical obd-2 drive cycle consists of
1) cold start (coolant below 122 dergrees)
2) five to eight min of warm up and idle period
3) first accelertation to 55mph at half throttle with ac turned off
4)first steady cruise at 55mph for three min
5) first deceleration to 20mph
6) second acceleration,this time at 3/4 throttle to 60mph
7)second steady cruise at 60mph for five min
8)second deceleration (without applying clutch or brake pedal)
