A friend who is your peer who rises to a position of power and responsibility, leaving you behind, or even just gets a better paid job, will invariably acquire a new circle of friends commensurate with his newfound status and wealth.
Pretty much every single time that happens, your old friend will eventually start to look upon you in the lower social circle he once called home as the poor relations, or even an annoyance. The allure of power is always simply too great for people to ignore, and in any case where once you felt affection from your friend, at best you would only now feel pity from him, and at worst resentment and revulsion.
It is far worse if the friend has been promoted at work to a position where he now calls you a subordinate and you have to call him boss. The old familiarity would no longer be appropriate, and you would have to kiss your friendship goodbye.

∙ 13y agoti depends on how they are in power. If they keep telling you what to do and get mad at you if you don;t do it then that is a friend who you don't want. If they are a friend in power like they have a better status than you and they DON'T abuse it than that is cool but if they DO than stop being their friend.
