A leprechaun is a type of fairy in Irish folklore, usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. Leprechauns are cobblers (or shoemakers). They are often depicted with a leather apron, holding a shoe.
There is no proof that leprechauns even exist.

Leprechaun's are fake. In myths, though, Leprechaun's are born into existence from two parent leprechauns. You can not 'turn into' a leprechaun.
The word 'leprechaun' actually means 'one shoe maker'. Apparently if you are lucky enough to spy a leprechaun the chances are you will catch him in the act of making one shoe - never a pair. Therefore it is quite possible that leprechauns are cobblers.

The word "leprechaun" comes from the Irish term "leipreachán," which means "small-bodied fellow." Leprechauns are mischievous mythical creatures in Irish folklore often depicted as shoemakers who hide their pots of gold at the end of rainbows.
